Benefits of a vision board

When you think of a vision board what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it a mind map? Is it just a bunch of pictures or drawings? Are there lines or string? Words or quotes?

A vision board is a physical or digital representation of goals and dreams you want to manifest. They allow us to gain a sense of self-awareness through the process of self-reflection.

As a busy mom my brain seems to literally never shut off. There are a million things running through it all the time. From aligning our schedules to kids needs to buying groceries and more. You feel this overwhelming sense also?

One way to aide in finding clarity is through the self-reflection process of creating a vision board. It can help you narrow down specific areas of your life that you want to better, change, or recreate.

How it can help you

Going through the stages of building a vision board can be very therapeutic. It encourages you to dig deep and discover what you really strive for.

What motivates you? What are your core values? A vision board can help narrow down your priorities so you can focus on what really matters to you.

Setting your intentions

Start the process by digging deep and understanding your true wants and needs. How do you want your next year to feel? Cozy? Fruitful? Calm? Adventurous?

Once you figure out your intention you can move on to selecting your focused life categories. This is explained in more detail further down.

Making your Vision Board

Grab a cup of coffee or tea and let’s get to work!

Choosing your style

Are you more of a physical need to see it, touch it every day kind of person? Or do you want it digital to put on your computer background?

I’m a blend of both! I like to create it on my computer for quick access and keep a printed version pinned somewhere I see every day. Another option is to put a printed version in my planner. I reference my planner (almost) daily so this is a great reminder location!

It’s important to pick categories that make sense for you. Don’t just go with what’s trendy cause it may not be relevant.

Use tools like Canva, Google docs, and Pinterest to make your vision board come to life! It can be fun to turn this in to a full on creative session! Cut and glue your physical vision board together.

First Steps

Select categories

Try to keep it simple but comprehensive. I tend to pick 5-7 core areas of focus and break those down further for my goals.

You want to pick areas that you want to make intentional changes or focus your attention the most. Often these are started with big core areas, such as family, career, finances, etc. What is important to you?

My categories for 2026 include: career/education, travel, finances, friends, family, wellness, and creativity.

Inspiration

Depending on the medium of your vision board you can use a mixture of physical and digital inspiration. Back before internet, vision boards involved primarily paper products such as magazines, books, newspapers, etc. This can still be utilized today!

Digital platforms offer internet-based images, words, or phrases that can be printed out for use in a physical vision board. Conversely, you can snap a picture of inspiration and upload it to your digital vision board. The options are truly limitless!

For online mediums the biggest source of inspiration pictures is Pinterest but simple browser searches work just as well.

Incorporating with Planning Tools

Use your vision board to guide your planning sessions. This can look like simply referencing your vision board when setting up your planner, monthly goals, and weekly intentions.

Any time that you are making plans for your imminent future, think next 3 months, look at your vision board. Start your planning process by re-inspiring and re-aligning yourself with your goals, visions, and dreams.

Be sure to keep your vision board in an easy to find location for this reason! You are more likely to manifest your visions this way.

Share with me your categories or your word for 2026!
